My Journey Grief Facilitator Training

The U.S. Census Bureau estimates that 1 in 10 children will experience the death of a parent by the age of 18. Schools and youth-serving organizations need to be prepared to offer support to children dealing with grief.
My Journey workbooks include eight chapters designed to be completed in a 8-10 week format covering the following topics:
Feelings, Beliefs, My Story, Changes, Balance, Connections and Memories. In this training participants will learn to facilitate small group sessions with youth who have experienced losing a loved one and help guide them through the stages of grief.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
  • Common Reactions - Stages of Grief (Kubler-Ross)
  • Myths about Children and Grief
  • My Grief Rights: Ten Healing Rights for Grieving Children (Wolfelt)
  • Knowledge of loss according to developmental stage
  • Tips on talking to elementary, middle and high school youth
