Student Discipline

In recent years, there has been a united effort from the Federal, state, and local level to improve school climate and school discipline. The focus has been for staff to pay closer attention to and address the social, emotional, and behavioral needs of all students, rather than on the use of exclusionary discipline. It is with proper implementation of student discipline procedures that a positive school climate and culture can be achieved. The workshop will address the proper application of the laws, policies, court decisions, and best practices that guide the suspension and expulsion process.  Participants will receive access to the most current electronic edition of the S4 Student Discipline in California Schools publication and supplemental resources. Topics include:
  • Suspension process & limitations
  • Investigative steps
  • Search & seizure
  • Expulsion process & limitations
  • Considerations for students with special needs, in foster care, or who are homeless
